萘的分子式为C10H8，熔点为80.28度，沸点218度，固态密度为1.14g/cm3，液态密度(85度)为0.97g/ cm3。纯萘为无色单斜晶体。工业萘为白色或微黄色，片状或粉状晶体，易挥发，具有特殊芳香味；不溶于水，溶于醚，氯仿等。

分馏高温煤焦油所得的萘馏分，经洗涤，精馏而得。
